Two Reasons I like Street Photography

Reason 1: You never know what kind of things you'll see, like a man pushing boxes down a sidewalk and,

Reason 2: People lost in their own worlds, like a woman with some sort of mission on her mind.

Interesting find during lunch

During my walk to the local lunch pit, I found this interesting rock.  At first I thought it contained a fossil but upon further inspection, it appears to possibly be a stone scraping tool.  It fits wonderfully in my hand with slight depressions where my thumb and finger rests.  It has a "sharp" knife like edge.  I'm guessing this is a tool that was used by the local Native Americans, long ago.

Goes to show you, you should always keep your eyes open.

The Book of Jobs | The Great Debate

There once lived one of those really obstinate assholes who will constantly tell you he couldn’t change his assholic ways if it killed him. It killed him.

There once lived a pathological liar who convinced the world his particular habits of lying were the foundation of his astonishing business success. That turned out to be a lie.

Steve Jobs has been deified as a business giant and innovator. He truly manipulated people, things, and got people to buy into the Apple cult, like a true Machiavellian asshole. That, in itself, is interesting.

Taiwanese Girls Mimic “No Pants Day” to Save Environment

Last week in Taiwan, a gaggle of young girls flaunted their assets on Taipei’s MRT subway line — all in the name of saving the world, of course. Mirroring the famed “No Pants Subway Ride” that has exploded in popularity in New York due to the efforts of groups like Improv Everywhere, the women (and some men) bared legs and smiles to a sea of gawkers in order to raise environmental awareness.

I'm sure we can all get "behind" environmental awareness...

New evidence suggests Stone Age hunters from Europe discovered America

Some genetic markers for Stone Age western Europeans simply don’t exist in north- east Asia – but they do in tiny quantities among some north American Indian groups. Scientific tests on ancient DNA extracted from 8000 year old skeletons from Florida have revealed a high level of a  key probable European-originating genetic marker. There are also a tiny number of  isolated Native American groups whose languages appear not to be related in any way to Asian-originating American  Indian peoples.

But the greatest amount of evidence is likely to come from under the ocean – for most of the areas where the Solutreans would have stepped off the Ice onto dry land are now up to 100 miles out to sea.

The one underwater site that has been identified - thanks to the scallop dredgers – is set to be examined in greater detail this summer – either by extreme-depth divers or by remotely operated mini submarines equipped with cameras and grab arms.

I always find Paleolithic human migrations fascinating, especially now with the ability to test for genetic markers.

Letters of Note: I am your fellow man, but not your slave

I will now bring this letter to a close, you shall hear from me again unless you let me hear from you. I intend to make use of you as a weapon with which to assail the system of slavery—as a means of concentrating public attention on the system, and deepening their horror of trafficking in the souls and bodies of men. I shall make use of you as a means of exposing the character of the American church and clergy—and as a means of bringing this guilty nation with yourself to repentance. In doing this I entertain no malice towards you personally. There is no roof under which you would be more safe than mine, and there is nothing in my house which you might need for your comfort, which I would not readily grant. Indeed, I should esteem it a privilege, to set you an example as to how mankind ought to treat each other.

What a powerful letter, written by Frederick Douglass, and well worth the long read. I wish I could write like that.

Hadley

R0010898-3

Whenever I find myself on I-10 in California, I always make a stop at Hadley. They have the most delicious banana date nut milkshakes.  Of course they must be like 2,000 calories, but once you have one, you are hooked!

The last time I had one of these bad boys was over 8 years ago. Sheesh, where does the time go?
